Steam Boilerhouse Operations - Advanced is a course focusing on developing operators (and managers) knowledge and competency in the operation of assets supporting steam generation. Unlike some traditional courses, where the emphasis is on examination and interview, our course is developed to support learning and development in a method suited to work environment. The open book assessment allows candidates the ability to further source information (as they would in the field) and not rely on knowledge retention that can often be difficult to harvest in stressful conditions.
The course is delivered by experienced process engineering professionals who understand people as well as processes. We adapt our style to get the most out of your candidates in an engaging environment, without the unnecessary stress of information retention, examination and interview.
The final post course competency evaluation is developed to assess whether the candidate is safely operating the boiler and address where improvements can be made.
Further to the course, the boilerhouse manager should support operators in improving the gaps in competency/compliance.
This Course is also suitable for boilerhouse managers (responsible persons), with the post course evaluation replaced with a boilerhouse management/documentation assessment.

Improve underpinning knowledge, operations, and management of your steam boiler assets with this bespoke course tailored for steam boilers. Following this course, delegates will have a clear understanding of Steam principles. Hazards, Operations, and Management of boilerhouses, ensuring they safely and efficiently operate these critical production assets.
Designed for anyone dealing with steam boiler activities from Operators to Managers. This course provides the basic fundamental understanding of Steam/Boilerhouses including associated hazards and essential operations. Ideal for new/existing employees or those looking to develop knowledge for more advanced qualifications within this specialised field of process engineering.
The Institute of Training and Occupational Learning has accredited the course syllabus, learning material, and outcomes. On Successful completion, candidates will be issued formal electronic certificates by ITOL that can be used to verify learning.
This course would be delivered on your own site with reference to your own assets. We undertake day 1 as theory with day 2 in the boilerhouse applying the learning from the previous day. with max group numbers of six delegates, we keep this focused and concise to maximise learning.
This course can also be delivered internationally if required.
To assess learning delegates undertake a multiple choice test and demonstrate practical elements on their own boiler on the second day.
Email info@tec-sol.co.uk for availability, further information, or a quotation on delivering the course on your site. Full course Syllabus can be issued upon request.
This workshop is aimed at Steam Boiler Operators, Managers and Health & Safety Managers.
Designed to be engaging and informative with practical assessments, we explore the operational, environmental, management and installation risks associated with your steam boiler assets.
The outcome of this workshop is to allow Owners/Operators of steam raising plant to understand the inherent risks associated with their specific site by understanding failure mechanisms and consequences. On completion, with raised awareness you’ll be able to improve standards, reduce risks and take the first steps in developing your own Technical Risk Assessment.
A brief outline of the workshop:
- Legislation overview
- Failure Modes
- Consequences
- Risk management/reduction
- Worked example (identifying Hazards/Risk/Impact)
- On-site practical

This course focuses on HSG 250 and HSG 253 to provide delegates a clear understanding of safe systems of work in relation to Permits to Work and Safe isolation of Plant.
We explore the fundamental principles of these documents as laid out by the Health and Safety Executive before undertake a group exercise for defining permit requirements and isolation from actual systems.
Delegates will leave with a clear understanding of the role of permits in supporting safe working and ability to determine isolation requirements based on their own site systems.
