AWARD-WINNING Independent engineering consultancy FOR THE STEAM/BOILER INDUSTRY.
It's a legal requirement that every boilerhouse should have a suitable and sufficient risk assessment. For a boilerhouse, this isn't a typical slips, trips, and falls type approach but an in-depth process review to capture Low Frequency, High Severity risks.
Our approach is to review the entire boilerhouse process, management systems, training, and operations to produce a detailed boilerhouse audit coupled with a thorough working risk assessment (with a HAZOP feel) for you to keep as a live document and share with employees.
Like every risk assessment, this should be a working document constantly referred to and reviewed when there are any modifications, repairs, change of personnel and even review after annual maintenance has taken place.
As part of the risk assessment process we engage with responsible persons and operators to truly understand how you manage and operate your boilerhouse, YOUR input is invaluable to the process but also aids in understanding any risks identified and measures to reduce or mitigate the risk. A boilerhouse technical risk assessment should not be seen as a tick box exercise but as an essential part of your boilerhouse or quality management systems.
Our Approach:
Prior to the risk assessment, we will ask for key important information to be supplied or made available on the day of the audit for review.
Examples of information requested are:
- WSE (Written Scheme of Examination)
- Inspection and NDT reports
- Water treatment records
- Operating procedures
- Logbooks
- Service reports
- Training records/certificates
The actual audit will consist of a thorough boilerhouse walk-through, surveying all aspects from services in to steam out, installed assets and ancillary equipment. This would be followed by sessions with responsible persons and operators to review findings, understand operations and incorporate you into the process for final data gathering/risk analysis.
Following the audit, an off-site report will be compiled along with the actual risk assessment. The report will be a PDF document detailing the findings identified on the day of the audit, along with a working Risk Assessment. This allows you to sign off measures put in place to demonstrate risk reduction.
It is recommended that the entire risk assessment is reviewed on an annual basis with industry experts to ensure you are constantly up to date with the latest regulations and operating with the lowest acceptable risk possible.
It's important to note that, it is the Owner/Operator's responsibility to ensure the level of risk is as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP) and managed accordingly.
